The Olympic flame arrivied on the Island
The Olympic flame, lit by tradition from the sun in ancient Olympia, arrived in Britain on board of the “British Airways” aircraft from Athens.
“Firefly” landed in the naval base in Culdrose. Princess Anne, long-standing competitor in equestrian sports and participating in the Olympics, took out the fire in a special wind cap. The delegation was welcomed by the President of the Organizing Committee of the Games Lord Sebastian Coe, a legend of world athletics and the soccer star David Beckham, who is an ambassador for London 2012. It was the former captain of England to lit the first torch of the upcoming 70-day relay that will cross the UK far and wide.
The start is in Lend’s End, South West England and the honor to be the first torch carrier is in charge of the triple Olympic champion Ben Ainslie.
